Second Semester: Day 1

Everyone was reminded that the third marking period will go by FASTER than the second!

Two Hour Delay Follies

Grade 12
  • No Period 4 today!
  • Period 8: We went over quiz 2 and read Act 3, scene 2 line 63

Grade 10
  • Viewed the first part of the Julius Caesar video.
  • Students watched in study groups and compared notes after.
  • We'll finish watching the act on Monday and, hopefully, take the act 1 quiz.

Grade 9
  • Study groups compared reading logs from last nights reading assignmant in Night. Chapter 3 pages 29 to 34.
  • Discussed chapter 2 in a large group with special attention paid to the characterization of the people in the cattle car and the effect of Mrs. Schacter's behavior on the group.
  • Homework tonight: read pages 34 to 39 plus reading log.

    Act 1, Scene 1
    Summary: The commoners are partying in the street. Julius Caesar is returning to the city after defeating Pompey, another Roman general. Flavius and Marullus, nobles, are upset at this. They send the crowd home, after trying to shame them for being so happy over Pompey’s defeat.
    Lit. Elements:

    Tone: Tension. The anger of the nobles, and happiness of the commoners is laying the groundwork for the story’s conflict.

  • Discuss how to interpret the quote. Generate a few that work for this one.

All classes were encouraged to maintain focus as the pace of the school year picks up. It's almost June!

  • Pd 8: Started act 2 (I will be taking half a day on Wednesday. This will make sure Pd 8 keeps up with Pd 4 by the end of the week.) Read to scene 2, line 91.
